2-Year Asphalt Paving Warranty

At Maritime Paving & Sealing Services, we take pride in delivering durable, professionally installed asphalt surfaces that are built to last. Every driveway is constructed using proven installation methods, proper base preparation, and quality materials.

Our 2-Year Asphalt Paving Warranty is designed to give you confidence that your new driveway has been installed correctly and will perform as intended.

What Our Warranty Covers

We warrant that your newly installed asphalt driveway will not experience structural failure, including:

  • Alligator cracking (interconnected cracking resembling reptile skin)

  • Asphalt breaking apart due to inadequate base preparation or improper asphalt thickness

  • Structural failure resulting from defects in workmanship or materials supplied and installed by Maritime Paving & Sealing Services

In our experience, if a driveway performs well through its first two years and multiple freeze-thaw cycles, it is well positioned to provide 20–25 years or more of service life with proper maintenance.

The first two years expose the pavement to seasonal expansion, contraction, moisture, and temperature changes, making it the ideal period to verify that the driveway has been properly constructed.

Our goal is to provide exceptional workmanship, clear communication, reliable scheduling, and a finished product that exceeds expectations.

What Our Warranty Does Not Cover

Asphalt is a flexible pavement product that naturally responds to weather, ground movement, and everyday use. The following conditions are considered normal and are not covered under this warranty.

Frost and Expansion Cracking

Linear cracks may develop as the ground expands and contracts during Nova Scotia's freeze-thaw cycles or during periods of extreme summer heat.

These cracks are considered normal asphalt maintenance and can typically be sealed to prevent water infiltration.

Factors outside our control that may also contribute to cracking include:

  • Underground water movement

  • Tree roots

  • Burrowing animals or rodents

  • Existing culverts or drainage structures

  • Natural soil movement

Natural Ground Movement

Driveways are not constructed on deep foundations like homes and therefore will naturally move with the surrounding soil.

Seasonal frost may cause the driveway to:

  • Rise during winter months

  • Settle during spring thaw

  • Experience minor elevation changes over time

This movement is expected and does not indicate a failure of the asphalt installation.

Garage Transition

Because garage slabs are built on foundations while driveways are not, slight movement or changes in elevation where the driveway meets the garage are normal.

Surface Marks, Scuffing & Indentations

Fresh asphalt remains more flexible during its first one to two seasons, particularly during hot weather.

Normal surface markings may include:

  • Tire scuff marks from turning wheels while stationary

  • Minor tire impressions from parked vehicles

  • Motorcycle or bicycle kickstand indentations

  • Ladder or jack stand marks

  • High heel shoe impressions

  • Furniture or trailer jack pressure marks

These cosmetic marks typically fade as the asphalt cures and loses its initial surface sheen. They do not affect the structural integrity or expected lifespan of the driveway.

Drainage & Minor Ponding

Our objective is to provide positive drainage that works with your property's existing grading and landscaping.

However, some sites present unavoidable limitations, including:

  • Very flat lots

  • Low-lying garages

  • Existing landscaping elevations

  • Municipal road elevations

  • Existing drainage conditions

In these situations, minor puddling or standing water may occur after rainfall and is not considered a warranty issue, provided the driveway has been installed according to accepted industry standards.

Damage Caused by External Factors

This warranty does not cover damage resulting from:

  • Snowplow blades or snow removal equipment

  • Fuel, oil, or chemical spills

  • Heavy commercial vehicles or equipment exceeding normal residential use

  • Excavation or utility work

  • Acts of nature, flooding, or erosion

  • Improper maintenance or neglect

  • Damage caused by third parties

Our Commitment

At Maritime Paving & Sealing Services, we believe an informed customer is a satisfied customer. We are committed to honest communication, quality workmanship, and standing behind our installations.

If you have any questions about your new driveway or this warranty, our team is always happy to help.
